As part of the SPECIAL project, the Irish Planning Institute (IPI) has developed a series of up-skilling events, to be carried out in 2015. The programme has been developed in partnership with leading energy stakeholders and experts in Ireland and also draws on established best practice from across Europe, derived from the SPECIAL project partnership. The programme is also supported by the Sustainable Energy Authority of Ireland (SEAI), City of Dublin Energy Management Agency (CODEMA), ESB International and South Dublin County Council.
This module is open to all stakeholders in planning for energy projects and specifically addresses Part L of the Building Regulations and issues arising for implementation on the ground. Led by experts in this area, this workshop will explore the evolution of the building regulations with regard to energy in Ireland and will review European comparisons. The workshop will explore the practical meaning of the regulations, relating to developments that have gone through the planning system and retrofitting existing building stock. Challenges to the implentation of the building regulations will be explored and impacts/opportunities for the planning system will be considered.
